I've worked at the same school for the past 3 years and we are a Title 1 school. Many of the students that I work with come from households where parents are divorced, a single parent is working multiple jobs, students do not have books to read at home, and parents rarely have time to read. I want my students to have plenty of books to read in the classroom and be able to take the books home that they have been practicing and read to their parents. I want students to bond with their parents over these leveled books and parents are able to see their students progress through their reading. I want my students to fall in love with reading and have them reading to anyone that will listen to them. These books will give my classroom the opportunity to create an environment where students will fall in love with reading and gain a true appreciation for it.
