The listening center will be used during my language center rotation. This allows me to work with a small group of students or individuals while the other students rotate through different centers. Having a listening center will allow them to broaden their exposure to books and to listen to phonemic awareness activities. Headphones used in the listening center will block out all other sounds and allow my students to truly immerse themselves in a story. In addition, the books are read by professionals so they will be exposed not only to language but to different dialects and correct pronunciation! In addition, a listening center will also allow my students to work on phonemic awareness activities. Phonemic awareness comes before phonics and is the first step in learning to read. A strong phonemic awareness base equals strong readers. Therefore, a listening center will help my students become proficient! Thank you for making this a reality.
