My students are seventh graders in an inner-city middle school. The school lacks adequate funding, so we are unable to get more than basic supplies for the most part. 96% of my students (from a school of 700 total) qualify for free or reduced price lunches, and many of them are coming from homes with significant challenges, including a history of illiteracy and a lack of good examples of the improvement higher education can offer.
