My students range in age from 5-12. They come from a mixed demographic ranging from poverty to affluence. Some, in the younger grades, need reading support because they have not been properly exposed to letters/sounds. Some older students struggle with dyslexia and need very targeted interventions, while others need strategies for understanding what they read. Our school has a reputation for offering highly qualified instruction to those in special education. Because of this, many of our transfers are those who need reading support. The added number of transfers greatly strain existing groups and interventions. As a K-8 school, we have a student body of 500 plus. We have a dedicated staff who create a most welcoming environment. Our budget is tight, like many schools, but teachers find creative ways of funding some of their initiatives all in an effort to provide the best education.
