My students live in a high poverty area of Northern New Jersey. They receive free breakfast and free or reduced lunch. Our school is a Blue Ribbon School because the students, teachers, and administration pull together to give the students every opportunity that is afforded to them. The students and their families are very motivated to learn and become great readers, but unfortunately, they are not as fortunate as many other areas of the country. Many of my students do not have reading materials available to them at home and their only exposure to books and literature is at school.
