Our math department does not have textbooks for our students. I want all my students to keep well-organized notebooks in our class, and not all of them are able to afford school supplies. I have done what I can with donations in the past, but next semester I would like to try something new. My students will create their own math textbook! I will provide printed templates (and number the pages for them as we progress through the year) but they will be responsible for filling in the definitions and examples from what we do in class. They will highlight important concepts and keep key pieces of classwork and tests in the notebook. Best of all, since we are all using the same template I will be able to say "look at page 23 in your notes" and the class will all literally be on the same page.
