Students begin using dictionaries in elementary, but in Texas, dictionaries become commonplace and crucial for the skills needed to be successful, even on standardized assessment that students take at the end of the year. Our dictionaries were ruined by the flood waters of Hurricane Harvey that dumped approximately 53 inches in our area in a 48 hour period. It is estimated that 81% of all homes in our county were flooded. Our school and small community received the worst of it. While we need a school to return to, we are making the best of the situation sharing our high school with our sister middle school. In the meantime, we have some basic needs that are in dire need of being funded and that would be dictionaries.
