I have the most amazing kids! I teach a gifted 5th grade class. They have to be gifted in one area in order to qualify for the class. This means that my students are at very different levels. One common characteristic is that they LOVE to read. So much that I often have a difficult time finding books that they haven't read! If I let them, they would read all day long. They love to tell me about what they are reading and share their discoveries with their peers. Library day is my classes favorite day. They all are so excited to find that gem, that book that will carry them to another world where they can be anything they want. I love to watch their faces light up. Their favorite time in class is when I read aloud to them. Even though they are in 5th grade, I still gather them around and I read to them, ask them questions, discuss events, and make inferences and predictions. These are skills that will carry them through many different aspects in life.
