First graders love to learn. They love discovering new things and finding abilities within themselves that they did not know existed. When a first grader learns something new, or masters a skill they have been working on, the look on their faces is priceless! It is what keeps me teaching! My students are always in need of a larger selection of books in our classroom. Part way through the school year, I saw many students taking longer to select a book to read. This was mostly due to them looking for a book that they are interested in or have not read yet. Our school library is closed part of the year for inventory. During this time reading stops or slows way down for some because of the inability to check out books. I am working on building a classroom library that will be big enough to keep students reading all year.
