My students are 7th and 8th graders who live in the city of Chicago; 75% of my classrooms receive free and reduced lunches. As a their teacher, I am humbled by how they are hungry to learn and succeed while persevering through broken family lives. They have the ambition to develop the mature character and skills needed for high school. They absolutely love science labs and learning how science is applied to their everyday lives and surroundings. Also, I do need to inform you that my students share my love for cheesy science jokes, puns, and songs! Another great strategy to reinforce science concepts! One thing that I love about my school is the high diversity found in different spheres of socioeconomic backgrounds, ability levels, and race; these differences have challenged & encouraged my students to embrace diversity and support students from all walks of life.
