Math is a language we use to understand and describe our world. It's a way to solve everyday problems and to dream of new solutions to tomorrow's problems. In the past, students in my math classes have worked to solve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) problems like redesigning a soda can to maximize volume and minimize surface area and figuring out how much faster you travel around the globe if you're living on the equator versus the Arctic Circle. This year, I will move from STEM to STEAM, with the A being Art. Pi, Fibonacci, fractions, linear equations and many more math concepts lend themselves will to exploration through art. I am raising money to purchase top-notch math and art supplies for the students in my Title I school. They are going to put a lot of thought and effort into their projects; having access to high-quality supplies will help them create projects they'll be proud to display.
