I want my students to experience authentic, relevant learning in and out of our classroom. I am designing a new, creative learning space from the ground up in which to teach photojournalism, yearbook, and coding to seventh and eighth grade students. These courses will reach over 250 students this year alone. By integrating and streamlining the technology and equipment needed, my objective is to provide students with the tools they need to create our first ever digital magazine and to represent our 750 student population with over 2500 photographs in our yearbook. My hope is that by teaching digital citizenship and journalistic integrity in classes that have inherent deadline pressures and are by nature intensely collaborative, these students will emerge as tomorrow's leaders and innovators.
