I have 18 students in my classroom; 9 are male and 9 are female. Working at a school district that does not have a pre-k program provides me with many challenges because I have such a large range of abilities. The school that I teach for is a K to 5 school and is made up of students from 2 towns. I am lucky because I get to teach on a team comprised of kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd classes. This team groups students based on ability, not grade level, for math and literacy. This really allows my students to be challenged or receive the extra help as needed. I have many different learning styles in my classroom, most of which are hands-on and visual learning styles. With that said, I am constantly making games and finding manipulatives for my students. As a first year teacher, I do not always have the manipulatives that would best support my students' learning. I am lucky to have team members who are willing to share with me and support me in my first year.
