70% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and are from the 4th most diverse city in the USA. They mostly would like to go to college and work in education and social services. Many of my students play sports, are in school leadership, and other extra- curricular activities. They are highly motivated and intelligent and have a valuable contribution to make to our society. They respond well to high expectations and can master college level work (when I don't tell this). Despite their lack of access to technology, my students, my students are experts at using it. They are free and critical thinkers and have unfortunately been exposed to violence and human suffering. My students are English Learners and in some classes, 50% of students are persevering over learning disabilities. They are 36% African American, 28% Latino, 20% Asian, 10% white, 2% Pacific Islander, 2% Filipino, .3% Native American, and 2% Mixed Race/ Other. They are studying US history and government.
