My young wrestlers are 95% Hispanic with a total team membership of twenty five. We have twenty-one boys and five girls that are now wrestling. Our school is a magnet school with seven hundred and sixty students. We are 96% free and reduced lunch, which makes us a Title I school. We have a grade of "A" - one of only three high schools in the city with that grade. We have a graduation rate of 94%, second highest in the district. Wrestling is a physical competition, between two (occasionally more) team competitors or sparring partners, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. There are a wide range of styles with varying rules with both traditional, historic and modern styles. My student/wrestlers compete in, Free and Folk style wrestling. My student/wrestlers are mostly freshmen who are eager to learn. What I am most proud of is their demeanor and would classify them as young men and women who are very respectful and appreciate the opportunity to represent their school.
