As a teacher, I want to foster the love of reading in every student. Reading is like a key that unlocks the door to the mysteries of the world, and to a second grader there are many wonders to learn! Too often, children read the same material over and over due to the limited resources available to them. My job as a teacher is to open the door to the world that is just outside their door with a good source of reading material. I teach in Idaho in the West Ada School District. There are about 650 students in our building with students who come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. There is also a diversity of academic abilities from our gifted and talented classrooms to our resource programs. I have 23 students in my 2nd grade class. In the second grade classrooms, we level for reading, so students benefit from the creative approaches of our teaching team. The students I serve are high achieving students with a strong ability in reading.
