My students are amazing. Everyday they come to school smiling and ready to learn. However, they have to work harder than most students to gain and retain academic skills. Unfortunately, most of my students have associated reading as a task that they will never achieve. At ages as young as 8, I have heard phrases like, "I can't read," and "I don't want to grow up, because grownups have to read." This is heartbreaking to me. I would like to hear my students say, "I love to read!"
