My school serves 425 students in grades P-6 and is located in the heart of a neighborhood, so most students walk to school. Many students arrive at school already behind academically due to socio-economic status, transiency, language barriers, and other hardships. Our county has one of the highest levels of unemployment in our state At my school, many students come from a life of poverty, as 85% of our students receive free/reduced lunch. We also have a high ELL population, mostly speaking Spanish as a first language. Because of our high poverty status,we provide free breakfast and lunch to all students as well as a mid-morning snack. Nevertheless, our students come to school ready to learn! They are eager and curious about their world, and they are very nice and caring students. They deserve a high-quality education that will prepare them for the world beyond our community.
