We are located in a very poor rural area. The businesses that were based here have moved and our school's parents struggle to make ends meet. The students I teach live in tremendous poverty. They have limited experiences, limited vocabulary, and limited exposure to quality reading materials. For many of our students, the meals they receive while here are the only meals they get to eat. We have a large number of Spanish speaking students. Many of their parents do not speak English. They need all the support that we can give them at school. Most of our students do not having reading materials at home. The books we use in class are crucial in helping each child learn to read. Our county and state has deeply cut our budget and we do not have the financial support we need in order to best help our students. Our students love being at school and love the opportunities they have while they are in our care. Many students will be able to benefit from using these materials.
