Most of our students are very low to poverty level socio-economic status and do not get exposure to the world outside their home neighborhood environments. At our school, we utilize many outreach speakers and presenters to come and educate our students and expose them to resources in our community that they may not learn about otherwise. We do not have the money to add on an additional room, therefore, we will use our cafeteria as a multi-purpose room for presentations and teacher lead interactive learning lessons. In our multi-purpose room we want to install a flat screen tv, a teacher/staff laptop to use in this room, and 10 student Chromebooks. Right now, we have to put all of our students into a small classroom that has a projector and screen for presentations. We feel that our students would benefit from a multi-purpose room that would allow more comfortable space for a presentation, along with a better view from a TV for slide shows and videos. Since our students have very little community resource exposure, these outreach presentations are very beneficial and important for our students. The multi-purpose room would also be a great time for teachers to incorporate more technology use in their lessons. The teachers would be able to design lessons that incorporate interactive learning on the Chromebooks to the TV. Students could also use the space to break off into groups when working on projects together.
