Having access to Scholastic Action Magazines throughout the year will help my students discover that reading can, in fact, be fun. While the magazines allow me to provide specialized instruction aligned to the Common Core State Standards, they also enable the students to interact with entertaining literary and informational texts. The opportunities to include differentiated instruction are endless with a resource like this, making it the perfect material to address the needs of my students. First and foremost, the content of the magazines is chosen for students from grades 6-12. However, the readability levels are appropriate for students in grades 3-5. There are even options to choose higher- and lower-Lexile versions of the text, as well as higher- and lower-level worksheets to accompany the text. As the teacher, I can see myself using the lesson plans provided for each text during my small-group instruction. However, students can then further explore the stories and articles as a station during independent or partner work. Not only do the magazines come with comprehension skill worksheets and graphic organizers, but they also include meaningful graphics and related videos. In the end, having access to these magazines will help my intervention students be successful in a number of academic settings.
