I teach in a small district at an intermediate school in a rural southern town. Average class size, student/teacher ratio in my school is 19 to 1 and have 71% of our students on free or reduced lunch. My fifth grade classes consist of teaching two groups of eighteen students, focusing on English Language Arts and US History. Both classes are diverse; ranging from different ethnic groups, genders, and ability levels. I have students ranging from 2nd grade to 8th grade reading levels, heterogeneously grouped in my classes. Currently, I have seven students that are above average, 5 of which are awaiting test results for the Gifted and Talented Program. I also teach 6 students that are reading below fifth grade average, 3 of which receive extra support services in a resource classroom. This project will engage and aid my low level learners and enrich and captivate my high fliers. Lectures and textbooks are just not "cutting" it! Time to scrapbook!
