Because of the limited supplies available to us for word work, students have access to only a small number of experiences, reading and writing new words as their phonemic awareness and understanding of English spelling patterns grow. We need new word work games and materials. We are requesting Alphabet rubber stamps and phonics rubber stamps, word building games with manipulative letter tiles, digraph tiles and blend tiles, which will build our students' awareness of how words are built out of sounds and letters. We're also requesting echo microphones which allow kids who struggle with distraction, to clearly hear their own voice in a noisy room as they practice English sound patterns. With these interactive, multi-sensory games, students will have a much wider variety of learning experiences, providing greater access and engagement for our wide variety of learners. Students will read, write, sort, build, stamp, say, listen, and discuss new words, expanding their budding English vocabularies and their ability to communicate effectively in writing. For those students who still struggle to persist with difficult language activities, the heightened level of engagement provided by these games will make the challenge more manageable.
