My students are at-risk readers who struggle in one or all of the foundational skills of reading. Our school uses a preventative model for reading intervention, in that we identify students who will struggle in reading as early as possible in order to prevent students from falling so far behind. Early identification allows me to intervene with students BEFORE they become too discourage or come to hate reading. This year I work with about fifty second and third graders from seven different classrooms. Through my job I am able to touch more readers than even a regular classroom teacher is capable of in a given year.
