In our school we are nurturing lifelong learning and thinking about real world subjects. We just need more informational texts to help us on our way. South Carolina has a "Read to Succeed" law that essentially requires students to be on reading grade level at third grade and eighth grade. Therefore, our school is putting an emphasis on classroom libraries this year. Our classroom library has many fiction texts but we are limited with our non fiction selections. Scholastic's "Let's Find Out" leaflet magazines will provide weekly access to more complex informational texts for my students filled with real pictures, rich vocabulary and concepts! Each week they can add "Let's Find Out" to their Independent Reading bags and build their own library! How exciting that will be for my little learners. These magazines will also build background knowledge so that we can link real world concepts to our classroom subjects. We will also use these magazines for writing our own informational texts.
