My students usually range from second to fifth grade and attend a Title I public elementary school in North Miami Beach, Florida in a primarily Haitian community with low-income families. I normally teach approximately 400 students a week. Their academic abilities range from several learning disabilities to gifted. We produce a large amount of art work throughout the year and I enter many students' art work in local, district and state contests and in district art exhibits. This school year I have an opportunity to bring art and literature experiences to Head Start (3 years old), Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Art experiences could reach out to approximately 150 students by reading them stories about famous artists, asking interactive questions and creating an art project inspired by each famous artist. I would like to use the book series "Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists." by Mike Venezia.
