I'm a Speech/Language Pathologist and I work directly with approximately 72 severely compromised students every year. These students range in age from 2 1/2 to 5 years of age, and attend a Special Education Preschool Program in a local school district. Their disabilities cover a wide range of developmental areas. Specifically, most of the students can not talk or talk very little, some are physically impaired, some are autistic, and some have significant medical histories. I work with a team of teaching professionals to help these students improve their skills in their areas of need so that they can go on to be as successful as possible in their future educational careers. Much of our work is done in small groups or with individual students to specifically address their developmental area(s) of need. We do this through play, simple pre-academic tasks done at a table, with stories and music.
