My students need to wiggle, stand, squeeze, and bounce, all while soaking in the challenging concepts fourth graders are expected to understand. I once had a student ask me why students are expected to sit all day ,and the teachers get to stand up and walk around. Flexible seating will help ALL students achieve their academic goals. Studies have shown that classrooms where students are allowed flexibility in their seating have an increase in student motivation and engagement. With exercise balls, wobble stools, and balance cushions, my students will be able to keep their brains focused while their bodies move. Also, these flexible seating options are easily maneuvered around the classroom and will allow students to collaborate on our class projects.
