Most of my students are experiencing school for their first time. Being in kindergarten can be exciting and filled with new things; understanding how to stand in a straight line to discovering their love for books. My early readers have shown eagerness in learning how to read. Some are still sounding out letters, and finding out the "ah ha!" moment. They blend their letter sounds and are discovering sounds make up words. Other readers are using their sight word knowledge to decode books and are using pictures to read. This is a very exciting time for my kindergarten students! Being part of their first years in school allows me to create a positive literacy atmosphere for these early readers.
