We are a diverse population with more than 65% of our students being from minority families. We have a large Haitian-Creole population as well as a very strong Spanish speaking influence. We are a Title 1 school with more than 55% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch. We live in a remote area and our circumstances are quite unusual, as our district spans more than 90 miles from end to end. Although our students come from very diverse backgrounds they are a tight-knit group who believe deeply in community. As most children tend to be, they are an inquisitive group, although many have never left their home town, or even the little neighborhoods that surround our school. They are amazed at small things, such as a simple trip to the pumpkin patch or planting a pumpkin seed. They absorb information like sponges and love to learn through hands-on activities.
