We are launching an "Amygdala Rest Room." The Amygdala is the part of the brain that is responsible for emotions, and the famous 'fight, flight, or freeze,' response. Many of our students need coping strategies to help them to deal with difficult emotions. If students are not feeling well and calm, they can go to this room and work on different strategies to calm themselves down. When I'm not with students in the rest room, I'll be going from classroom to classroom with materials to teach all classes self-regulation and awareness, and managing and understanding emotions. Hence-I'll need a big cart to transport materials! We can equip our students with the tools they need so ALL can have access to the Social and Emotional Curriculum. This project will provide visuals that will engage students in our Amygdala Reset Room. It will be broken up into learning centers, including the Yoga and Mindfulness Corner. The Brain Decal will be used as the centerpiece of the room-reminding students that it is a brain regulation room they can learn coping strategies in! Having visuals the students can connect to will help them to focus. We will have Community Yoga Classes for teachers, families and community members, and need a microphone so all can hear, whether we are indoors or out! We would also like to be able to have spaces for items to be organized, as well as beautiful wall tapestries that will help transform the environment.
