My school is a successful neighborhood middle school located on an island, with students coming from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. We have band, art, and foreign language classes, which help introduce some of our less-advantaged students to a larger world. Our two special-needs classes are fully integrated in our school; this year several honors students voluntarily spend their lunch periods with their handicapped peers. Through Robotics Club and Science Quiz Bowl, our students delve into science; all 8th graders participated in the National History Day program; and our geography and spelling bee winners both advanced to the regional level. But because we are not a Title I school, we do not qualify for extra resources, limiting our ability to offer students the research tools they need.
