I teach a wide variety of students, from gifted students to special education. I teach grades 9-12. I teach music appreciation, AP Music Theory, three bands, and a variety of other music classes. My students tend to stay with me for all four years of their high school education. I teach approximately 225 students a day about music and why it is important to our daily lives. My students reach limits they never thought possible in my subject of music. My school is approximately 60% free and reduced price lunch in a bedroom community. The student body is 45% white, 43% black, 10% Hispanic, and 2% other. The county was one of the fastest growing school districts in the country, but when the housing market busted in 2007 it decimated the school district. Funding dropped to all-time lows, furlough days were implemented, and salaries, personnel, and budgets were cut. In the past year, the school culture has slightly improved, but the budget and household income has not.
