I teach a substantially separate class for developmentally delayed and Autistic students. They are a very enthusiastic group of special learners. They love to learn new skills and would love to be able to learn to read and write independently. Some of my students have motor difficulties, so paper and pencil activities can be frustrating for them. When they get the opportunity to use educational games and apps on a computer they thrive. It engages them completely in the activity. We are located in a large urban elementary school (830 students), with limited access to the most up to date technology. We have one computer lab with 25 computers and one teacher for the entire school. While there is a mobile lab available there are only 75 tablets/chrome books for the entire school. Preference is given to the higher grades (3-5) as they need to be able to do on-line testing and math programs as part of the curriculum. Access for classes such as mine is limited.
