Our Ceramics Club students come with and without experience working in clay. We just had our first meeting. Students are coming from Ceramics classes and the general student population because they want to be part of this soon-to-be-the-funnest-club-ever project. They're enthusiastic, full of ideas, very creative and just got their first opportunities to learn wheel throwing. Our program is small, in a big school, and we're concerned about keeping it. Producing art using a potter's wheel is an amazing skill that has our students lining up to learn. NO fear in this crowd! It's difficult though, when a bunch of students hurry to the room and they're dividing time on two wheels. Having interest isn't our problem. Not having resources is. One of the Club's ongoing projects (besides lots of fun working with clay) will be fundraising to get wheels and equipment.
