I teach 6th grade math students in a rural community. This year we are completing our work in interactive journals to make the grueling task of note taking more fun for the students. They are color coding notes, completing activities, and finding many ways to make math fun and relevant to real life situations. It is a wonderful feeling when the students tell you that taking prime factorization notes on a tree "made more sense" than just copying the problems down. The activities are fun, but the supplies wear out after using them daily across 100 students. We are having a blast in math this year and want it to continue! I am always looking for new and creative ways to involve students in my math lessons. I enjoy finding ways to make math relative to their lives. It is a pleasure to watch the creative processes of my students!
