We have 276 students at our Title I school with a population of approximately 96% on free and reduced lunch and 98 % African American. We were identified by our state as a failing school. My goal is create an environment of self learners. These students want to succeed. Being called a failure leaves a lasting impression on them and it is seen in their attitudes. The environment needs to be clean as well as technologically up to date in order to encourage and lift their self esteem. Students need more exposure to the current trends of communication for presentations. My students have expressed the need to self reflect and critique their work once it has been finished.
