My school is a Title 1 school where the majority of students are on free or reduced lunch. Most of my first grade class are ESL students (English as a Second Language) where I am developing their listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills in English. We have started incorporating more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities and learning into our lessons. Our science specialist does STEM competitions with the whole school during National Train Your Brain Day in October. My students have taken an interest and have really grown by incorporating STEM into their day. Because of this, we have started a Robotics Club for 1st-4th graders. Several of my students, especially my girls, have shown a great interest in joining so we created a group in my classroom. I want my students to have every opportunity to grow as scientists, technicians, engineers and mathematicians that they may not have otherwise.
