My goal is to provide students with various methods of teaching to bridge gaps that need to be filled. The state I live in has recently passed a reading gate which basically states that students cannot pass third grade if they're not reading on grade level. My students are currently reading on a beginning of the year first grade level. Most of my students come from low income families, single parent households, or homes in which grandparents are raising them. If I could capture their attention for longer periods of time, growth would clearly be evident at the end of the school year.
