An area rug will create a special place that will motivate students to learn and read. It's novelty may also help motivate them to stay focused. Most children like to get positive, exclusive treatment. An area rug helps to create that distinction. Students on the rug will get extra, special, more individualized attention on challenging concepts and/or strengthen their knowledge of concepts already learned. While working in small groups I will be able to more easily identify struggling students and the specific areas in which they struggle. The rug is not just for struggling students, however, it is also for students who have gained mastery and are ready to be challenged.
