My school has a large Spanish speaking population that are in the process of learning English. My students are 4-5 years old and have a great desire for learning, this is their first exposure to a school setting and have adapted quickly. Since the start of school I have encouraged their love for reading by providing different opportunities for them to engage with literature: I give them books to take home, we have read-aloud time everyday, guided reading and listening center. Some of them had never been read a story before or had never owned a book, but they have immersed completely in the world of reading and engaged in every opportunity presented; they love read-aloud time and they enjoy "reading" books by browsing the pages and pretending to read, they get really excited when they get a new book to take home or when I place new books in their library.
