In third grade, my students learn about environmental science, physical science, and life science. Learning is more meaningful when students can manipulate what they are exploring. These hands-on projects will allow my students to explore animal habitats by building different areas animals live in. They will explore space by creating constellations and studying the stars. In addition, my students will learn about renewable energy sources and will be able apply their learning by designing their own sources by using their imaginations, as well as trial and error. Finally, my students will be able to see and manipulate the smallest parts of visible matter using microscopes, and comparing them to the life size object they make up. By using hands-on learning tools, they will have the opportunity to better understand each of these disciplines because they have had the chance to experience what is was like to research, design and build them in collaborative groups.
