Help give my students the opportunity to experience Broadway theatre from the safety of their homes. Students will get to experience a recording of the play “Choir Boy” which previous students have responded overwhelmingly positively to. Playwright, Tarrell Alvin McCraney, is an up and coming Black playwright whose other play served as the basis for the Oscar award-winning film, "Moonlight". A lot of the themes in "Choir Boy" are concepts that all of my students can relate to and learn from. Not only do students get to experience the recording of the Tony nominated show, but they also get the opportunity to work with teaching theatre artists before and after the performance to enhance their theatre studies. Students will write only short plays inspired by the themes in Choir Boy. These plays will then be performed by guest actors who are working in the industry.
