Science happens less and less as high stakes testing happens more and more. I can't stop teaching science, though. It isn't fair to my students and it isn't fair to our world. My fourth graders ARE scientists. They observe, they watch, they ask questions (lots), they wonder, predict, ponder and test. They are in a school and a district that wants them to achieve their potential. However, more often than not, there is very limited funding to support this critical endeavor. These children are scientists and they are the future. They are future doctors, engineers, artists and teachers. Some of them will be responsible for creating and filling jobs which we have no concept of. Creation and sustaining this future does not just happen. It takes work and resources from the very beginning.
