Currently, the materials in my classroom are over 12 years old. This means that about 240 four year old children have used these materials. Many toys are in poor condition. Some toys are simply out dated and no longer meet the needs of our program. Some skills were not a priority, such as writing, 12 years ago. I am able to create some fun activities but my students deserve to have the toys that will engage them and help them master skills such as letter identification, beginning sound fluency, number identification, and counting. With these materials, my students will be able to participate in small group activities to learn skills such as alphabet recognition, counting, rhyming, beginning sounds, and matching numbers to quantities. After being taught a skill, the materials will be available during centers so students may play and master the skills. Materials will also be available to help parents who have struggling learners in the class.
