We have all grown up using a paper and pencil in school. Nowadays, if schools are lucky enough, they are able to impact their students using modern technology such as laptops, tablets and Smarts Boards. Now if we weren't lucky enough to have access to electronics, most of us return home and use our own personal devices. The students in my classroom do not have access to a lot of electronics at school or at home. Special Education students are special because they are able to process everything differently than we can. Which means that lecturing, using regular classroom equipment and materials does not always support their learning style. Most schools still use teaching strategies that has been used for years, which in turn has become a source of frustration and many now hate school. By providing them with an alternative learning strategy, it is my hope that it will trigger a love for learning for all of my students and find a truly specialized and individualized method of teaching.
