Children go through many emotions as young students, and schools are seeing an even wider range of these emotions every year. The Destination Calming Station will be a place that students can voluntarily escape while dealing with some of these emotions in a safe environment. Nestled in a comfortable place in my office, students will be given access to flexible seating, books, calming sensory manipulatives and other products such as “fidgets,” weighted animals, and many other products that they can use to calm themselves down, escape from whatever has triggered them, and learn how to effectively self-regulate their emotions before it becomes a discipline issue. The term “Destination” is being used because we will use photographs and posters from some of our favorite travel destinations that we all like going to in order to relax.
