I work in 360 High School, in the Providence, Rhode Island. I am new to this school and state this year. Before that I was a high school guidance counselor in Brooklyn, NY for 12 years. 360 High School is located in Lower South Providence, which can be considered a rough neighborhood. We are a title 1 school and almost all of our students receive free lunch. Our school is 30% English Language Learners, many of which students struggle academically, not because of their capacity to learn, but because they face many personal obstacles. Gang violence is very present in the neighborhood and at times can make it's way into the school. We are a new school and will have our first graduating class next year.
