My kids are awesome! They all come from lower income homes and many lack the basic necessities that we all take for granted. They really do enjoy reading, and their faces light up when they are able to read a new book that they are interested in. I have many students who come to me in the beginning of the year at a very low reading level, and they have made huge gains just by reading in class. Our school is not in the best area, and the older kids have a lot of difficulties to deal with. A love for learning created in first grade will, hopefully, follow them throughout their school careers.
