My students are incredibly curious and hardworking 8-year-olds. They are passionate about protecting endangered animals and care deeply about justice and fairness in our world. Most speak a language other than English at home, and 100% of my students come from low-income families. They love to learn, but have a hard time sitting in school because they rarely get a chance to move their bodies. Outside of school, many students live in shared apartments and their families don't feel safe letting their kids play outside in our neighborhood. Only one of my students is able to afford an after school sports program. Because these beautifully energetic children don't always get a chance to let out their energy, they are very fidgety in school.
